Are Woom Bikes Best For Kids?

We're reviewing Woom Bikes to see if they are best for kids

Woom Bikes themselves say “The best riding experience starts with the best bike. For kids, that means a bike that’s lightweight and easy to ride — one that’s intentionally designed and built for them, not just a smaller version of an adult bike.” (quote from Woom Bikes website)

Woom Bikes Are Loved by Kids and Parents

Kids love Woom Bikes - we love the red one

After our careful review of Woom Bikes, we have to say, we agree. We see many reasons why the bikes of the Austrian company Woom have been triumphant in recent years. They are made famous on blogs and internet forums by parents who appreciate them for their quality, lightweight and smiles they bring to kids’ faces. It is the latter that makes parents able to spend anywhere from $ 199  ($169 pre-owned )to as much as $ 1050 ($ 949 pre-owned ) for a childrens bike.

Woom Bikes Are Lightweight

Woom bikes for 3-4.5 year old kids weigh 11lbs, for older kids 17lb- 22lbs. By comparison, most bikes on the market are around 11 lbs heavier. It makes a real difference for the ease of use (point to Woom Bikes here!).  Many parents are looking for a lightweight, high-class bike for their children, because they cannot imagine changing from a balance bike weighing 4.5-6 lbs to a bike weighing 22 lbs. Woom Bikes are the preferred answer here. Weight is one of the most important factor in choosing a bike for your kid. It is much more comfortable for a child to ride a light bicycle, it is easier to pedal and stop, easier to keep the balance and easier to maneuver. Another important feature of Woom Bikes is the center of gravity – which is low and the distance between front and rear wheel – which is what makes low center of gravity possible. Woom bikes also have smaller distance between pedals (called q-factor) which allows kids to pedal with their knees pointing straight. This makes the movement more efficient – easier for the kid.

The heart of the Woom Bikes is a light aluminum frame, adjusted to the shape of the child’s age (meaning child appropriate geometry), which facilitates safe learning to ride a bike and the ride itself. Woom Bikes are equipped with a steering limiter – which prevents the handlebars from overturning. It helps children ride straight and therefore reduces the risk of accidents. They also have a comfortable saddle and high-quality bicycle tires made by Schwalbe (which is top quality).

Our Verdict

We are absolutely in love with Woom Bikes. Especially when we hear from parents and from kids that Woom Bikes are lightweight, very well made with high quality and that they make kids smile. Most parents we spoke to also emphasize how easy it was for their kids to figure the bike out – like start pedaling after 20 minutes. We also noticed that Woom Bikes have a good resale value – make it easier to pass the bike to next young cyclist!
