Why Would Anyone Want an E-Bike? More precisely – a Carbon E-Bike?
Great Question! In fact, when the first electric bikes appeared on the market a few years ago, everyone was wondering. Myself included. Btw – I have an article about e-bikes in general here.
But you know what – the answer is really simple. We all can benefit from using e-bikes. Especially now, when some brands managed to solve weight problem. First e-bikes were super heavy and also crazy expensive.
Those problem are solved forever by a startup called Urtopia. They are now releasing a super-modern, stylish and lightweight carbon e-bike. Yes, you hear me right – the entire bike is made from carbon, not just the frame! Wow.
Full disclosure – to write this article I was in contact with Urtopia and they provided pictures and bike specs and some other info. But honestly – I cannot wait to test this bike!
Urtopia Carbon E-Bike – The Future Is Now
This carbon e-bike is a marriage of futuristic design, cutting edge tech and reasonable price (Yes, this seems possible).
Urtopia is a startup, who raised $3M via crowdfunding campaign to get this bike on the market. And it’s available on the market now, with a promo price (US only) of $1999 (yes, you hear that right – two grant, not twenty grant, make sure you use CLEAN800 Promo Code). I am not sure how long this price will last but anyway, this is still far, far below a price for a full carbon e-bike from larger brands. If you want to get yours here’s the link:
To get this carbon e-bike for the amazing price, use Coupon Code: CLEAN800
One more thing I wanted to add about the company – they are trying to build a community of biking enthusiasts, leading active lifestyle and benefiting from innovation. When asked about their brand name they explained that Urtopia stands for New Urban Utopia – sounds kinda cool!
Their CEO says: “Urtopia carbon e-bike allows you a more efficient and sustainable way of travel” and that “As a new brand, we hope our products can encourage riders to come back to the outdoors, and get rid of fatigue from sedentary urban routines in a post-pandemic era. Urtopia helps customers to enjoy a healthy life with friends and family, and find their own New Urban Utopia. We hope one day, they will proudly say, ‘I’m not riding an e-bike. I’m riding an Urtopia”
Urtopia Full Carbon E-Bike – Let’s Look at The Tech and Specs
What differentiates this carbon e-bike from competition, is that it is really, truly full carbon. Meaning they use carbon fiber not only in the frame and front forks, but also in the handlebar and seatpost, resulting in a super-light weight of only 33 lbs – meaning you can easily carry it around, if you need to (or want to for that matter, because, in all fairness, when I look at it, I feel like putting it my wall instead of a painting).
You know what else full carbon means? Urtopia e-bike absorbs road vibration effectively, which translates into a more comfortable ride, especially due to the fact that all major structural components are made of carbon fiber.
The bike uses proprietary motor control and clutching mechanism as well as advanced Internet of Things (IoT) technology.
The central control is a sophisticated handlebar that has an on-board computer, a dot-matrix LED display, a GPS/eSIM module, a voice-recognition system, a fingerprint sensor etc.
Fondly called the Smartbar, it offers never-before-seen functions on an e-bike such as AI voice control, retro display, OTA firmware upgrade and haptic interaction, among other already state-of-the-art ones like stand-alone GPS tracking, fingerprint unlock, and auto-sensing StVZO-compliant headlight. My, my – you can get really go down the rabbit hole of digging into this tech. 72 hours later…no, just joking. But I really like the tech.
Urtopia also put a lot of thoughts into the safety side of their carbon e-bike. They put in a safety feature called ARES, which stands for Advanced Rear Early-indication System. It’s comprised of a bright red position light, and a pair of projection lights that indicate turning directions. They also put sensors such as accelerometer, gyroscope, and torque sensor on this bike. Seriously the future is now.
Let’s See The Design of Urtopia Carbon E-Bike
When looking into how they came up with the design, I learned that are working with people from Apple and BMW. For example, multiple-award-winning product designer Mathis Heller (he did designs for BMW, Siemens, etc) designed the frame of Urtopia carbon e-bike. The story here is that the frame is inspired by the Möbius strip which symbolizes infinity and endless connection, coinciding with Urtopia’s vision of creating a green and sustainable future with infinite possibilities for all.
I also found that Urtopia got the endorsements of NBA legend Tracy McGrady, 2021 Olympic kayaking gold medalist Max Lemke, 3x Olympic swimmer Philip Heintz, and 5x German triathlon champion Franz Loeschke. Looks impressive but also the bike is really impressive. And what I like even more, is that you’re getting high end carbon e-bike for 50% of the price of it’s nearest competitors.
I cannot wait when I will be able to properly test carbon e-bike for a longer period of time. Comparing to the market, it looks really amazing.
Stay tuned – I will tell you all about it as soon as possible!
